| The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure clinical-track, assistant or associate professor in anesthesiology on an 11-month appointment. The successful candidate will devote up to 75% of his or her time to clinical instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). Small and large animal clinical duties will be shared with other veterinary anesthesiologists and anesthesiology resident(s). Clinical responsibilities will include anesthesia support for the small and large animal hospitals and the Diagnostic Imaging and Cancer Treatment Center. The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of a creative research program, and academic service. Active supervision of house officers and in-depth participation in intern/resident training (including topic rounds, journal club, and back-up support) is expected. Numerous opportunities for collaborative research exist throughout the College and University. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to interact with more than 45 small animal faculty members, 30 large animal faculty, and 56 interns and residents in the VMTH. Currently, the anesthesia service has a total of 12 small animal, 3 large animal, and 2 imaging center anesthesia technician positions to facilitate daytime and nighttime operations. In addition, anesthesia oversees several part-time student workers that contribute within the service as needed. The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital is a spacious facility with sophisticated diagnostic and patient care equipment, including but not limited to color-flow Doppler ultrasonography for diagnostics purposes and local regional blocks, 4D transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, digital fluoroscopy, scintigraphy, 40 slice CT, 3T MRI, video endoscopy, nuclear imaging, acid-base/blood-gas analyzers, oxygen and inhalant gas analyzers, standard coagulation as well as visco-elastic point of care and platelet function analyzers, intraoperative cell salvage transfusion equipment, phacoemulsification system, pediatric and adult patient ventilators, one-lung ventilation devices, high-flow oxygen therapy, and peripheral nerve stimulators. A state-of-the-art electronic anesthesia scheduling/case-tracking system along with 19 new Mindray anesthesia multiparameter monitors with a central anesthesia station allows the Texas A&M University anesthesia service to be one of the most sophisticated in the world. The anesthesia service also has a 15-camera monitoring system used to remotely view all equine induction and recoveries as well as radiation therapy cases. Radiation capabilities include TomoTherapy and iridium implant brachytherapy. Surgical suites and instrumentation allow for complex orthopedic, neurologic, cardiac, thoracic, oncologic, and abdominal procedures such as stereotactic brain biopsies, cardiac occlusive device implantation, and subcutaneous ureteral bypass device placement. Research equipment available, but not limited to, includes lithium and thermodilution cardiac output monitoring, thermal threshold testing, and mechanical threshold testing.
