The Veterinary Medical Center of Central NY is looking for a Chief Medical Officer.  The CMO will work directly with the clinicians, support staff leaders and the administrative team to align goals, impact change, and endorse our positive, collaborative culture.

• Job Description:
  To provide medical, professional, ethical, and cultural leadership within the Veterinary Medical Center of CNY.
• To provide overall training, supervision, organization, direction, and evaluation of clinicians.
• To act as a meaningful and operational liaison between clinicians and administration/executive team.
• To work collaboratively with clinicians and executive team leaders.

Position Description:

The Chief Medical Officer fosters strong working relationships between clinicians and hospital administrators that benefit both interests. The CMO inspires excellence, helping create and attain a shared vision for the delivery of veterinary medicine in the practice. The VMC CMO supports a vision for a mindfully led and collaborative ER/Specialty Veterinary facility, and assists the leadership team with aligning clinicians with the practice goals and cultural initiatives. The CMO maintains the framework for delivering quality and cost-effective care to our patients, and excellent client service to the pet owner. The CMO exemplifies and leads our organizational culture that values all clinicians as collaborative members of a health care team.

Major areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

• Management of patients within own service when operating in a clinical capacity
• Administrative responsibilities as CMO include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Develops, approves, and ensures our standards of care are upheld
  • Oversees veterinarians in regards to procedures, performance and ethics
  • Assists in veterinary recruiting, orientation, management, development, and training
  • Oversees scheduling to ensure comprehensive service availability and support
  • Policy development, implementation, and documentation
  • Approves new medication and product requests
  • Maintains awareness of daily operations and assists in proactively addressing problems
  • Oversees laboratory equipment quality control, infection control
  • Develops and promotes a team approach towards problem solving
  • Manages client complaints involving specialty services including interaction with the clients, record review, recommendations for corrective action if warranted, coaching of involved parties.
  • Maintains awareness of changing safety and regulatory standards
  • Encourages and measures clinician engagement
  • Leads the Medical Leadership Committee

Requirements:

• NY State Licensed to Practice Veterinary Medicine
• Diplomate in good standing from applicable specialty college
• Preferred
• 4+ years experience in management role
• Formal Leadership Training/education/Continuing education
• Demonstrated leadership skills and positive response to coaching
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with clients, colleagues, and support staff.
• Exceptional interpersonal skills, including conflict management and relationship building
• Calm under pressure.
• Flexible – able to compromise; willing to adjust to change in a positive manner.
• Team player – willing to work with other clinicians and staff to support the needs of the practice
