We are seeking an ICU Managing/Hospitalist Veterinarian to work with the emergency and specialty teams, assisting in the intake and management of hospitalized emergency patients, creating and recommending treatment plans, maintaining and updating medical records and facilitating transfers to the appropriate specialty service as needed. Hospitalists at GCVS enjoy both our dedicated, experienced support staff of 40+, as well as scribes to help with note taking, updating patient records etc. to allow our doctors spend more time practicing, less time on administration.
Hospitalist responsibilities:
Receive transfers from the emergency veterinarians that require hospitalization. Patients may be transferred to specialists the same day, the following day, or may be discharged by hospitalist on the following day.
Receive minor follow up appointments that come through as “same day emergencies” as well as low acuity same-day These will be the “fast track” emergencies.
Create and recommend treatment plans
Update patient information in medical records with the latest findings and treatments
Order diagnostic tests for health care staff to administer
Review and interpret test results
Prescribe pharmaceuticals based on diagnostic results and physical exam findings
Communicate with patient owners regarding their care and well-being
Provide updates and discharge summaries to rDVMs
Attend daily rounds
Our 60,000 sq-ft hospital has a 1.5 T MRI, 64- slice CT, a Varian Halcyon radiation therapy system capable of advanced radiation therapy modalities as well as an Interventional Radiology Suite. We currently have specialty practices in Surgery, Neurology, Internal Medicine, Critical Care, Radiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation, Radiation Oncology, Ophthalmology, Dermatology and Allergy, Avian and Exotics, Cardiology, Behavioral Therapy, and Anesthesiology. In addition to the specialty services, we have a 24/7/365 emergency service with a team of dedicated ER doctors and Criticalists.
Requirements
DVM or VMD licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Texas
Active DEA license
Minimum of 5 years of practice experience
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
