Our 24-hour emergency and specialty hospital is currently seeking a Veterinary Hospitalist to join our amazing emergency and critical care team. Our brand-new 19,000 sq. ft. facility has been purposefully designed with state-of-the-art equipment to assist us in fulfilling our goal of practicing quality medicine and compassionate care for patients, families, and referring veterinarians in our community. Avets has a long-standing focus on emergency, trauma, and critical care.
The Veterinary Hospitalist will work directly with our emergency and critical care department. Their primary responsibility will be to receive transfers from the emergency veterinarians that require hospitalization. Patients may be transferred on the same day, the following day, or may be discharged by hospitalist on the following day. Secondary responsibility would include receiving minor follow up appointments that come through as “same day emergencies” as well as low acuity emergencies (i.e., urgent care).
The ideal candidate will be internship-trained or have at least two years of professional experience as a DVM prior to their application.
Education is a daily focus at Avets. Our commitment to education is demonstrated by hospital-wide support of our internship and mentorship programs, and a team of VTS (ECC) lead training for our support staff. Additionally, we support personal and professional growth and wellness for our team members. We believe that our progressive approach to medicine and leadership creates an environment where specialists can collaborate openly as a team, allowing us to best serve the needs of our patients and clients daily.
Located in Monroeville, PA, Avets is just a 25-minute drive to the city of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh and its surrounding areas have a lot to offer anyone considering moving to town. There is easy access to high-quality education for those with families or who are looking to grow theirs. Whether you like to explore historic museums, charming cultural districts, or local restaurants and breweries – you will never be far away from all that our city has to offer. If hiking and spending the day on the river or slopes is more your style, the beautiful Laurel Highlands region offers a wide range of outdoor activities.
We would love to meet you and show you around our city!
Avets is a proud member of the NVA Compassion-First family of hospitals.
NVA Overview:NVA is a growing community of general practice clinics, emergency hospitals, equine practices, specialty hospitals, and pet resorts across five countries. Our doctors and pet care teams share best practices, medical knowledge, innovation, and insights. This collaborative approach allows each individual practice and pet resort to do what they do best: service their local community with compassionate, best-in-class care and medicine, to enhance the lives of the animals they love while backed by the support, stability, and leadership of NVA.
Compassion-First and NVA recognize that we share deep-rooted values and priorities. For years, our dedication to Specialty and Emergency medicine has been a common background.
Our groups have long shared the belief that the best patient care comes from championing hospitals in their local communities and supporting the practices and culture that have made them successful. We believe in empowering veterinarians and their teams with deeper resources so they can do more of what’s already working.
Combining our strengths gives us the opportunity to make a lasting and positive impact on the profession, our people, and the care of animals.
As one of the only dedicated Specialty and Emergency groups in the industry, NVA Compassion-First is the trusted partner of hospital teams who are looking for more—more resources to advance their medicine, a greater sense of belonging, and increased opportunities to care for their patients, clients and people.
