Note to the reader: This ad was not written by the owning veterinarian. Instead, it was written by his wife because let’s be honest, women are generally better at this whole “words on paper” bit. Now let’s get to what you really came here for:
Obviously, we are looking for the same thing just about everyone else is on here… A vet. So, how do I make myself stand out from the crowd? Well, to be honest, that’s a hard one, but I’m going to give it a go.
My husband and I bought DRVC back in 2021. I say we, but he is the sole owner, and I am the executive director. He had been working at this practice since he graduated from Texas A&M (WHOOP!) in 2014. We knew going into his career that buying the practice was his long-term goal. He wanted to own a clinic so he could practice medicine the way he wanted without having to answer to anybody else. Veterinary medicine had been his passion since he was a kid. He spent 14 years in college and has a handful of rejections from various vet schools under his belt to prove it.
What neither of us realized was how much of a passion running the actual business would be for me. And this is where I’m hoping to stand out a bit. You see, I have a passion for people, for teaching and nurturing, for bettering the lives of those we spend the better part of everyday with. Yes, my husband handles all the medical decisions but I (along with my practice manager) work FOR our people. We have made great strides over the last few years to foster a culture of community and cooperation. We care deeply about each of our 35 employees, and we try so hard to make sure they feel seen and cared for. Working for us means that you aren’t just another name on a payroll list, you are a unique individual with your own particular set of needs and goals.
Now what exactly does this mean for you? Well, you’ll have most of the same basic benefits that other clinics offer like:
· Mentorship
· Flexible scheduling
· Competitive salaries with 20% production
· Signing bonus and reimbursement of moving expenses
· Coverage of 60% of your health insurance for you and your family
· Employee sponsored dental and vision insurance
· Two weeks paid vacation
· 6% matching to a 401K (after 2 years of service)
· Flexible Spending Accounts for healthcare and dependent care
· $2500 yearly credit toward continuing education
· All memberships and dues paid in full
· Quarterly employee appreciation get-togethers for you and your family
However, in addition to these, you’ll also get an owner and executive director who offer their 100% support to find and pursue YOUR particular passion. We work with exotics but aren’t particularly specialized in them. You want to do that? Fantastic! Really want to get into rehabilitation? Cool, we
could totally use that! You only want to focus on felines? No problem! We will make the accommodations necessary for you. Whatever it is, we’ll find a way to support you with mentorship, time off for CE, and financial costs.
Now, if you’re still with me, I’m hoping this is all sounding like a place you might want to work. Let me give you more of the nitty-gritty details about our clinic.
We are located in Beaumont, Texas. While that’s not Houston or Austin, it has a good mixture of city and country life. We are centrally located being roughly an hour to downtown Houston, an hour to Galveston beach, and an hour to Lake Charles, LA. Being right on the border of Texas and Louisiana means our food is the best mix of down-home Texas with a Cajun twist.
We having a thriving art scene (check out our Annual Mural Festival) and who doesn’t love a fair? You can check out the Rice Festival in Winnie, the Nederland Heritage Festival, or eat yourself into a food coma at the South Texas State Fair. If the outdoors is more your thing, Beaumont has some incredible offerings including hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, and birding over at The Big Thicket National Preserve, Village Creek State Park, or the Cattail Marsh. And when the weather is nice, strolling down the aisles of stalls at the Winnie Trade Days or spending the morning at one of the several farmer’s markets cannot be beat.
As for the clinic itself. We are in a 4000 square foot facility in the epicenter of Beaumont. The practice itself is well established and known throughout the community. We are the city vet and participate regularly in community events. Being one of the highest volume clinics in the area, there is always a buzz of activity. We staff three full time veterinarians. Each vet has three to four doctor’s technicians/assistants on any given day. In addition, we have a dedicated lab technician, treatment technician, and surgery staff. Each doctor has one designated surgery day a week. And Wednesdays off on a rotation with the other associate vets.
We are a mostly paperless clinic that uses Cornerstone practice software and has a fully stocked IDEXX lab for in house diagnostics. We have a mobile dental x-ray, tabletop x-ray, ultrasound, Phovia fluorescent light therapy unit, and a cold laser therapy unit. Dr. Hurych does a lot of orthopedic surgeries and is working to expand his offering in that area. He is also our local reproduction specialist who has made quite the name for himself among breeders. He can be stoic and quiet, but his patience is endless and he can be quite funny and playful. Dr. Brown is a fantastic internal medicine doctor who pushes patient care and client education above all else. He is an Army Reservist and the clinic grump. Dr. Dever is our newest doctor, having just graduated from Auburn University last May. She is a former technician of our clinic, and we are beyond thrilled to have her career come full circle with us.
The future of DRVC is looking bright. We have closed on a new piece of property just a quarter mile down the road from our current location. We are hoping to have our new, state-of-the art animal hospital built and operating by 2025. While I know that seems a long way off, joining our team now means you get to add your “touch” to our hospital plans. We will have some outstanding amenities including:
· General surgery suites plus a specialty procedure room
· Rehabilitation room with water treadmill
· CT Scanner
· 4-way tabletop x-ray
· Endoscopy
· Multiple fully loaded lab stations run by IDEXX equipment
· Separate rooms, treatment, isolation, ICU, and boarding for dogs and cats
· A centrally located pharmacy with a forward-facing window for clients to pick up their meds
· Luxury boarding
So that’s my pitch. It is rather long and if you’ve stuck around this long, thank you. Please consider applying. We would truly love an opportunity to chat with you and see if maybe our clinic is just what you’re looking for.
