Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital is looking for a Medical Director to join their 4 doctor team! Established in 1956, this busy small animal practice in Hampton, Virginia, is AAHA-accredited and proud to serve its community with a strong reputation for quality care. The efficient and communicative staff works hard to ensure a pleasant, stress-free experience for both clients and patients. The hospital provides primary and urgent care, soft tissue surgery, and dentistry. A board-certified surgeon and skilled ultrasonographer visit weekly to support the diagnostic and treatment strategies of the five dedicated veterinarians.
Culturally, Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital is a great environment for new and experienced veterinarians alike. The team is extremely collaborative and encourages one another to improve their skills and build knowledge. Due to the supportive environment, a majority of doctors and support staff have been with the practice for multiple years. In fact, more than 10 employees have been with the practice for longer than a decade. Those attributes, combined with the spacious facility in a beautiful area, five supportive doctors, and four collaborative LVTs, make Armistead a fantastic place for veterinarians and support staff to grow their careers.
The primary purpose and function of the Medical Director is to ensure the hospital is providing high quality veterinary care and exceptional client service while achieving high levels of Associate engagement, retention and productivity. The Medical Director partners with the Practice Manager as well as the Regional Manager of Operations, Chief People Officer and Director of Operations to operate an effective and productive veterinary practice and improve both the medical quality and business performance of the hospital.
The most important part of the Medical Director role is leading by example as an exceptional practicing veterinarian. The ratio of time spent on pure leadership duties vs practicing Veterinarian responsibilities will vary depending on the hospital situation; the Medical Director must use good judgment in prioritizing their duties on any given day, ensuring hospital productivity. On average, the ratio is expected to be about 20% leadership duties and 80% practicing Veterinarian duties.
