Are you interested in gaining hands-on, high quality experience with exotic species? Agave Veterinary Care is thrilled to announce the opening of its veterinary externship program. 

Our current case load is approximately 50% dog/cat and 50% exotic (small mammal and reptile only at this time). 

We see appointments Monday - Friday 8am-6pm. In addition to wellness visits, vaccinations, and husbandry discussions, we offer a variety of diagnostic imaging modalities (ultrasound, digital radiography, dental radiography, CT through a local referral hospital), laboratory testing (CBC, biochemistry analysis, in house cytologies, PCR and ELISA testing), and specialized procedures/equipment (rodent/rabbit dental instrumentation, Lonestar retractor, cautery, tonometry, etc.)

Surgical procedures vary wildly from one week to another but include spay/neuter, lumpectomy, splenectomy, liver lobectomy, C sections, vulvoplasty, intra and extra-oral dental extractions on a variety of species, rhinotomies, ear canal ablation and bulla osteotomy, amputation, cystotomy, and more.

Two week externships are available. Only one DVM student will be accepted for each externship to ensure they are given critical one-on-one mentorship and a valuable experience. Priority will be given to fourth and third year students, but students from all years are welcome to apply.
